Maintaining Momentum

That’s the challenge, isn’t it?

How does one capitalize upon, sustain, maintain, and further encourage personal momentum? The Dailies had an incredibly productive January. We’ve created functioning songwriting demos of five songs, five songs that we believe in and are ready to now start creating final tracks and vocals and mixes and whatnot.

The problem is that whenever I set a goal for myself, (like having five demos by the end of January, for example) I find myself wanting to draw back. This is, at least for me, a natural cycle. Create, then retreat, then repeat. The amount of time I wish to retreat is often linked to the size of the creative output that preceded it.

This is all well and good for my natural chemistry, and I have a sneaking suspicion that it works well for established artists who create, sell a zillion units, and then retreat to The Maldives or some other exotic location. For us, not so much. Kids still want to eat every morning. Unsigned, unknown artists’ material does not magically find it’s way into the hands of the adoring public.

Momentum must be maintained.

On the flipside, I strongly believe in the material we’ve created thus far, and I cannot wait to share it with any and all of you. This desire puts me back in my seat, back in my groove.

There’s work to be done.
